Wonki Ware Squat Mug – Vertical Lines – Yellow

This classic collection of squat mugs from Wonki Ware, South Africa is inspired by the vibrant, warm spirit of Africa. Di Marshall runs a small pottery studio where each piece of this traditionally produced pottery takes around three weeks to produce. Raw clay is dug up from the southern coast of Africa which is then shaped and left to dry for five days in the sunshine. It then undergoes its first firing in a kiln to turn the clay to a hard-rough bisque product. Once cooled the bisque is sanded and cleaned, making it ready for decorating and glazing. The glazed mug is then put back in the kiln for the final firing which takes approximately three days to reach the right temperature and cool down.

Each piece is unique, and I have used their plates and bowls in several of my projects in the UK and abroad. The uneven, organic shape of Wonki Ware mugs lends the products a genuine warmth and appeal. They are perfect for serving up coffee, tea and especially soup!

Hard-wearing, dishwasher, microwave and ovenproof – it makes them extremely versatile and ideal for bringing a little brightness to your breakfast table.!
