Interior design is always a partnership, between the designer’s vision and the client’s dreams. That’s why there’s no standard project plan or timeline: instead, I look to work with you to understand what you want from your family home, and keep you involved at every stage of the process – especially given the fact that in family life, budgets and priorities can change.
That said, there are some broad stages in a design project which act as a useful guideline:
This consists of one – or if necessary, more – initial consultations to evaluate a client’s wants and needs, and to get a feel for the property itself. As well as visiting your home, I ideally like to meet both partners.
Based on what you’ve told me, and what I’ve seen, I’ll then go away and create your designs incorporating materials, finishes and furnishings. Often, I’ll first present some mood boards to you to see which styles capture your imagination, and then develop those into a full design for you to sign off.
Based on the approved design, and your budget, I’ll put together a full specification and cost estimate for the soft furnishings for you to approve.
With the design and specification signed off, I develop a comprehensive project plan and schedule, and co-ordinate the different suppliers and tradesmen – providing full project management and regular updates. I also purchase and oversee the installation of all furnishings and accessories.
